Sources of Funding


The majority of funding for RISKcom is provided by a major grant from the R. Samuel McLaughlin Foundation to the University of Ottawa that has supported the McLaughlin Centre for Population Health Risk Assessment since its establishment in the year 2000.  Additional support is provided by the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada Chair in Risk Science held by the Scientific Director of the Centre, Dr. Daniel Krewski.

Private sector funding may be accepted under Canadian university-industry partnerships programs maintained by major granting agencies, including the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada  and the Canadian Institutes for Health Research , which  are subject to the usual peer review requirements of these agencies.  While industrial sponsors may provide financial support for RISKcom, the content of the site is the sole responsibility of the RISKcom Project Team.

The great majority of Project Team members receive no funding from RISKcom, including the large number of graduate students who contribute content to the site, following review by the Science and Communication Panels.
