Health and sustainability are interlinked. Sustainable development cannot be achieved without preserving and promoting population health. Conversely, sustainability can be a strategy to reduce health disparities and support health services and prevention. Sustainability can transform environmental protection and environmental health much as health promotion transformed public health. This lecture is based on the recent text “Health and Sustainability (Oxford University Press, 2015)”, which explores inter-relationships between population health and sustainable development, and how these two fields may reinforce each other to the betterment of mankind
