The McLaughlin centre
The RISKcom project is based at the McLaughlin Centre for Population Health Risk Assessment, a new Centre for Population Health Risk Assessment which focuses on the assessment and management of risks to the health of Canadians. Located within the Institute of Population Health at the University of Ottawa, the Centre for Population Health Risk Assessment provides a focal point for health risk studies in the National Capital Region. Unique in Canada, the Centre serves as a national centre of excellence in population health risk studies, thereby promoting cost-effective risk management decision making. The Centre identifies potential risks within a population health context, including genetic, environmental, and social & behavioral risks to the health of Canadians. |

The Centre serves as a resource to a range of stakeholders, including government, industry, and the public. Working collaboratively within the comprehensive transdisciplinary framework for population health risk assessment, the Centre addresses important population health risks using the best available methodologies in health risk science.
Initial funding for the Centre was provided by a grant from the R. Samuel McLaughlin Foundation. In recognition of this award, the Centre has been named the McLaughlin Centre for Population Health Risk Assessment.
RISKcom will focus on specific risk issues and explore these risks and their interactions in details. The McLaughlin Centre for Population Health Risk assessment has a broader perspective on population health risk studies and delivers a comprehensive program of research in population health risk assessment.
